An Indo-Italian Cooperation Project Kick-off Meeting
An Indo-Italian Cooperation meet took place at Ministry of Urban Development on 5th February 2008 chaired by Hon'ble Secretary, Shri M Ramachandran a study for comprehensive mobility planning and management using ITS in Delhi. After the initial meeting a separate meetings have been set up with all the stakeholders to discuss study scope in detail and for gathering information related to traffic, congestion and traffic plans.

President, AITS India visited ITS Colombia during 18-20 Feb 2008 for the ANDINATRAFFIC 2008 ITS conference alongwith Hon'ble Secretary, Shri M Ramachandran. the purpose of the visit was to meet up with high level delegates and share the best practise from around the world for the development of ITS in India. During their visit they had a chance to visit Transmilleneo BRT which is a very famous public transport system around the world.

• Inter Ministerial Core Group on Intelligent Transport System will be held on 12th Nov at 11:30 am at the Urban Development Ministry. AITS India has been invited to attend this meeting.

• ITS Conference & Exhibition meet on 3rd & 4th December 2007 at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. For details please log onto our website conference page.

• Ministry of Urban Development, Govt of India has been set up a Core Group for ITS development in India under the Chairmanship of Hon’ble Secretary (UD) with eleven committee members. AITS India is one of the member committee and would be serviced as Secretariat.

• President of AITS India visited Beijing, China to attend 14th ITS world Congress during 9-13 Oct 2007 along with Hon’ble Minister of State, Shri Ajay Maken, Ministry of Urban Development, Govt of India with member delegates from the ministry. During the ministerial session Hon’ble Minister has addressed the importance and the effective application of ITS which can save lives, time and money as well as reduce congestion and threat to environment.

• AITS India has been released a white paper on ‘Integrating ITS for Sustainable Mobility in India” on 23rd May 2006 by Hon’ble Secretary, Shri M Ramachandran, Ministry of Urban Development, Govt of India.

• An EU-India eSafety Cooperation project has been successfully completed with conclusion of two identified priority areas i.e Traffic Information, Management and Control Centre (TIMCC) and Emergency Management Service (EMS) to be set up in Indian cities to reduce fatalities upto 50% by 2015.

• An EU-India eSafety final Conference held in New Delhi at Hotel Ambassador on 1st & 2nd February 2007 with the theme of “Intelligent future for Transport and Road Safety in India”.

• ITS Asia-Pacific Board of Directors Meet in New Delhi, February 23, 2005.

• ITS awareness workshop at the Delhi College of Engineering, April 05, 2005

• President of AITS India visited China & Taiwan for promotion of 7TH Asia-Pacific ITS Conference & Exhibition.

• AITS India hosted the 7TH Asia –Pacific ITS Conference & Exhibition from 9-11thAugust 2005 in New Delhi at The Ashok, which was successfully conducted and the theme was “TOWARDS NEW HORIZONS.........” endorsed by different ministries with an understanding of interdisciplinary, inter-modal and inter-operable systems. Department of Science & Technology, Department of Heavy Industry & Urban Development sponsored this event.

• Three MoUs were signed between ERTICO – AITS INDIA & ITS TAIWAN – AITS INDIA and ITS KOREA - AITS India for cooperation and exchange of technical know how in Intelligent Transportation Systems.

• AITS, India developing two approach papers for the Technology Information & Forecasting Council (TIFAC) of India on following topics
1. Opportunities for integrating ITS into Transportation Plans &
Programme in India.
2. Opportunities for technology systems and services development for digital Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2010, New Delhi.
• AITS India took a large Indian contingent to participate in the 12th World Congress on ITS at San Francisco. Shri Haroon Yusuf, Delhi Minister for Transport, Dr. S. Mitra, Joint Secretary, Department of Heavy Industry, GOI and Dr. Vijay S Madan Commissioner Delhi Transport Department were also the part of the delegation.

• AITS, India and ITS Australia signed an MOU in the presence of Hon’ble Minister Transport, Delhi Government during the World Congress to work together towards launching an ITS Centre in India

• Australia launched the first ITS centre of Excellence in February’ 2006

• AITS hosted a two day EU- India Workshop on safety on the 2nd and 3rd of March in New Delhi. Over 14 companies from Europe participated in addition to dozens of Indian representatives from the Academia, Industry and Government.
• Amitabh Bajpai, President, AITS was invited to moderate a session during the 'Map India 2006' exhibition and conference, which took place in New Delhi. Geographical information systems (GIS) and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) experts stressed on the need of India having laws where it becomes mandatory for vehicle producers to manufacture information technology enabled vehicles which can interface with humans and infrastructure as well as share transport infrastructure development responsibilities.
• ITS India News (AITS) was the Media Partner during the first National Conference on Accessible Transportation “Mobility for All” held in New Delhi from the 17th to the 19th of March. The conference was organized by Samarthya - National Centre for Promotion of Barrier Free Environment for Disabled Persons in academic collaboration with TRIPP (Transportation Research and Injury Prevention Programme)
